Overview
The Problem
Clothing is a universal necessity, but the outfit selection process is subjective and can be difficult, needing to consider factors like weather, social time constraints, personal moods and budgets. For lots of people, deciding the right outfit can cause unnecessary stress and distractions.
The Solution
We developed a high-fidelity prototype for a digital wardrobe app. With built in tools like displaying the weather, a scheduling outfits in advance system, and suggestions based off past user decisions, Pocket Closet serves to simplify the outfit selection process for the user, saving their precious time.
Interviews
To get started, each team member interviewed 3 people to gain more insight on the problem and what people struggle with relating to the outfit selection process.
A common theme found in most of them was wanting to balance self expression with more practical constraints like time, weather and the social context of the occasion. While their styles widely differed, we also found a lot of them used similar platforms like Pinterest and Instagram for outfit inspiration.
On the left are some key quotes from the interviewees I collected.
Login and Home Page
To create a simple to use digital closet, we valued a minimalist design approach calm a calm and welcoming colour palette.
The login and home screen as seen on the right were almost completely from my contributions.
Design Process
Initially, our plan was to make an outfit generator to serve as the main purpose of the app. However from there, we decided to implement a manual outfit builder to still save users time whilst also giving them an option for their own decisions.
Tags as a filtering option became important as it minimizes the amount of user thought and input. The idea of the indoor/outdoor slider arose from this idea along with combating concerns about one's outfit not being accustomed to the weather.
The idea of scheduling outfits allows users to plan in advance to save their time in the future.
